FAQs about our Cappadocia trips

Cappadocia is centrally located in Anatolia, a region in the Asian part of Turkey. The region is known for its unique geological formations, including fairy chimneys or hoodoos, cave dwellings, and underground cities, which make it a popular destination to explore.

In general, spring (April to May) and autumn (September to October) are widely considered the best times to visit Cappadocia, Turkey. Falling during the shoulder season on either side of the summer high season, spring and autumn offer the perfect balance of mild temperature and fewer crowds. Shoulder season rates may be less than in high season, however, you do run the risk of encountering some rain in spring and autumn.

As Cappadocia sits at around 1000 metres above sea level it doesn’t experience such high temperatures in summer, making it also a great destination from June through to August.

By Road: 725km (7-9 hours drive)

By Air: 1h 15m direct flight

Most of our trips will commence in Istanbul and include transportation to Cappadocia. Our new trip Walking In Cappadocia is centre-based in Goreme, Cappadocia.

Getting around Cappadocia can be done through Turkey's well-connected public transportation which includes taxis and buses. However, most attractions you’ll want to visit in Cappadocia are spread out over large distances. Public transport only exists between towns and not all attractions are within the towns themselves.

For easy travelling to Cappadocia’s attractions, our small-group guided tours include transportation, arranging transfers, rides, and connections for you.

Some of the must-see attractions in Cappadocia include the Göreme Open Air Museum, which showcases ancient rock-cut churches and monasteries, the fairy chimney formations in Pasabag, the underground cities like Derinkuyu and Kaymakli, and the stunning panoramic views from Uchisar Castle.

Clothing

In the spring and autumn, a warmer jumper is recommended for the evenings, as is lightweight rainwear. In the winter, good quality rainwear is more suitable as there is a good chance of encountering rain. Temperatures may drop below freezing at night so wrap warmly - layers are best.

When visiting mosques, women should cover their head, shoulders, and knees, so it's handy to pack a scarf. Men should also ensure their knees are covered.

Footwear

Walking boots or trainers with ankle supports are recommended for walks. Comfortable walking shoes will be useful for exploring some of the ancient sites and sandals for general wear.
