Discover our Finland tours

Go snowshoeing, visit an award-winning Sami museum and enjoy castle-top views on our small group tours to Finland. With carefully crafted itineraries and an expert tour leader, you'll take in the best of Finnish nature and culture, one exciting area at a time.

Whether you choose to visit in summer or winter, Finland is a fascinating place to explore. This Nordic country is separated by the Scandinavian Peninsula, so while it’s not part of Scandinavia, it shares similarities to neighbouring Norway and Sweden.

Our Finnish Lapland Winter Adventure is nothing short of action-packed - go snowshoeing through the boreal forest of Inari (the heart of Finnish Lapland) and join a husky sledding experience, before visiting a reindeer herder and trying out cross-country skiing for yourself. Your highlight of the trip will likely be an evening snowshow aurora trek - thanks to minimal light pollution in Lapland, the Northern Lights are a regular sight.

There's no better way to immerse yourself in Finland's vast landscapes than on our dedicated Finland walking tour. Hike through national parks, follow a nature trail leading to Finland's southernmost point and admire coastal vistas of the Baltic Sea on the Grottstigen Cave Trail. Away from scenic walks and hikes, you'll also visit Bronze Age burial sites, microbreweries and castles - this trip combines the best of Finland's superlative nature and heritage.

Our Finland tour packages see you visit Lapland, Inari (the capital of Finnish Sami culture), Helsinki and more – plus a roster of excursions, from city walking tours and nature trails to husky sledding and views of the majestic Northern Lights.

Highlights of Finland

1. Walking tours

Guided walking tours really scratch beneath the surface of Finland's top cities as you uncover traditional and modern architecture in Helsinki, cathedrals and castles in Turku and the UNESCO-listed old town in Rauma. Stop for coffee and Aland pancakes in Mariehamm, the capital of the Aland Islands, to complete the city-life experience.

2. Sami culture

The Sami are an indigenous people who reside in the northernmost parts of Finland, Norway, Sweden and Russia. Meet a local Inari at their home and learn about traditional Sami handicrafts - including reindeer boots! A few hours are also well-spent at SIIDA - Sami Museum and Nature Centre, which includes displays of colourful clothing and an open-air museum showcasing the architectural heritage and livelihoods of the Sami in Finland.

3. Northern Lights

Head out into the Arctic night in search of the magical Northern Lights, where hues of green, pink and blue swirl across the dark sky. For Aurora Borealis tours in Finland, join our small group adventures, where you can seek the natural spectacle by snowshoe or snowmobile safari.

4. Husky sledding

Husky sledding is one of the ultimate Arctic adventures. Why not become a 'musher' for the day as a pack of energetic huskies pull you along the white wilderness? Afterwards, rest up with a hot drink in a wooden hut by the open fire - and very well-deserved, too!

5. Landscapes

Encompassing vast lakes, boreal forests and rugged natural beauty, Finland offers a rich variety of landscapes. Most of its terrain is relatively flat, too, making it ideal walking and hiking territory. In Hanko, follow the Tulliniemi nature trail to reach the southernmost point of Finland, or walk the Grottstigen Cave Trail to uncover part of Finland's history: the area is where locals hid from Russian invaders during the Great Northern War (1714-1721).

Frequently asked questions

What is the best time of year to visit Finland?

You may not think it, but Finland can be a year-round destination. We operate tours in the summer (April to September) when temperatures are at their warmest and the days are at their longest - plus most tourist facilities are in full operation. The best time to visit Finland for the Northern Lights is generally between August and April.

There's no denying that Finland is also a magical place to visit in the winter months (roughly October to March), too; this is when you can make the most of its outdoor activities, from snowmobiling and husky sledding to snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. These months mark sub-zero temperatures - so wrap up warm!

How many days in Finland is enough?

At least one week is an ideal amount of time to spend in Finland. Our six-day winter tour focuses on Inari, while our summer tour ticks off Helsinki, Turku and the Aland Islands. With so much to see and do, you could easily spend longer in Finland - each region has something different to offer.

Is Finland a cheap country to visit?

Ultimately, Finland is one of the most expensive countries to visit in Europe. That's why it makes sense to join our small group tour to Finland - you'll cover the highlights, enjoy authentic experiences and discover lesser-known sides to the country, all with the help of your dedicated tour leader and with a group of like-minded travellers.
