Highlights of Walking in Sardinia

Surrounded by warm Mediterranean waters, the Italian island of Sardinia is blessed with golden beaches, bright sunshine and numerous walking trails. Craggy mountains and deep rocky gorges lure hikers in. Here are the highlights of our walking holidays in Sardinia.

Supramonte Mountains

Turquoise-blue rivers meander between the chalky-white limestone cliffs of the Supramonte Mountains. Join our moderate-graded Walking in Sardinia Trip to hike up the steep gravel track of Scala' e Pradu and, as you reach the summit, discover spectacular far-reaching panoramic views stretching across the mighty peaks of Monte Corrasi and Punta Sos Nidos.

Gulf of Orosei

After a glorious stay at a family-run Agriturismo overlooking Lake Cedrino, we head to the coast to experience the laid back coastal life of Orosei. Wander along the seafront promenade of Cala Gonone to uncover a plethora of traditional bars and restaurants overlooking golden-sand beaches and glistening azure-blue seas. Take time to explore craggy inlets and dive into the sea for a vibrant underwater snorkelling adventure.

Selvaggio Blu coastal trail

Catch a boat to Cala Sisine to enjoy fabulous coastal views of limestone cliffs and white-sand beaches lapped by turquoise waters. Selvaggio Blu (Wild Blue) is a multi-day trek along Sardinia's remote east coast and certainly lives up to its name. Follow the undulating rocky trail to Cala Luna where the water is crystal clear and the beaches pristine. Golden cliffs rise from the water's edge and deep blue waves ebb and flow around the pitted hollow caves.

Trek the Gorropu Gorge

Drive along one of Sardinia's most scenic roads to reach the trailhead of Genna Silana Pass. From here you can walk along a steep gravel track leading down to the entrance of Gorropu Gorge. Fragrant Mediterranean maquis shrubs line the trails, embellished by colourful wildflowers and the crimson-red fruits of strawberry trees. Climb over boulders and squeeze through narrow crevices until you reach the rocky base of the shaded gorge below.

Cape Pecora

A circular beach walk from Scivu will take you along evergreen macchia-lined footpaths towards the sea. The pink granite peninsula of Cape Pecora juts out into the ocean and offers fantastic panoramic views over the glistening Mediterranean Sea. Trek further along the coast to find the picturesque surfing spot of Portixeddu. Relax on this beautiful golden sand beach, sheltered by giant dunes and hardy juniper bushes, and soothe tired legs with a dip in the refreshing aquamarine waters.

Carloforte

Take a ferry to the island of San Pietro to discover the old fishing town of Carloforte. The sandstone lighthouse stands tall on the towering karst cliffs, and a frenzied cluster of terracotta-roofed dwellings stretches down steep hillsides towards the sea. After exploring this beautiful island by foot, take a seat in an alfresco bar to replenish your energy levels and indulge in some of the wholesome home-cooked pasta and deliciously gooey pizza that the Italian's are so famous for.
